Marma Youth Shot Dead by Forest Guards in Kaptai
A
Marma cowboy named Ungchu Nungchu (22) was shot dead by
forest guards on 14 September at Kaptai Reserve Forest
area in Rangamati.
His
father Aungchung Hla filed a murder case against seven
forest officials of the Forest Department including Assistant
Conservator of Forest.
It
has been learnt that Ungchu Nungchu Marma of Chongachari
village under Chitmorom Union in Kaptai came across the
forest guards when he went to the hills in the evening
to look for his cows. The guards caught and detained him
at Karnaphuli Range on suspicion of being a pilferer.
In the night they shot him dead.
The
next morning his dead body was found in the hills after
a long search. The police sent his dead body to the morgue
for autopsy. No one was arrested in this connection. In
the afternoon the Pahari-Bangali Unity Council held a
protest meeting.
