A Marma Youth Shot Dead by Forest Guards in Kaptai

A Marma cowboy named Ungchu Nungchu (22) was shot dead by forest guards on 14 September at Kaptai Reserve Forest area in Rangamati.

His father Aungchung Hla filed a murder case against seven forest officials of the Forest Department including Assistant Conservator of Forest.

It has been learnt that Ungchu Nungchu Marma of Chongachari village under Chitmorom Union in Kaptai came across the forest guards when he went to the hills in the evening to look for his cows. The guards caught and detained him at Karnaphuli Range on suspicion of being a pilferer. In the night they shot him dead.

The next morning his dead body was found in the hills after a long search. The police sent his dead body to the morgue for autopsy. No one was arrested in this connection. In the afternoon the Pahari-Bangali Unity Council held a protest meeting.
